Job summary

This position is responsible for the administration of all governance related activities for the OMA Insurance (OMAI) board of directors.   

How you will make a difference
  • Supporting the Chief Finance & Operations Officer, Vice President OMAI, and General Counsel in governance-related matters and activities related to OMAI Board of Directors including providing advice on the interpretation and application of by-laws, applicable corporate law, governance policies, and governance related processes.
  • Leading all aspects of the OMAI Board of Directors working with appropriate staff from across the organization.
  • Providing executive support to the Chair of the OMAI Board of Directors.
  • Acting as the Staff lead on Board Director, and Board Chair, including annual Key Performance Indicators.

Requirements that are important to us
  • University degree in Business Administration or similar field with complementary governance/corporate secretary experience
  • Five plus years experience with analysis and policy development
  • Ability to lead a team of cross-functional resources through project plan and implementation. 
  • Demonstrated ability to be member-focused, effectively communicate both written and verbal, organizational skills and a high degree of concentration independently  
  • Understands common corporate Rules of Order, notably Nathan’s Rules of Order and Robert’s Rules of Order 
  • Understands Governance requirements and developments in practice
  • Excellent relationship management skills, able to work with stakeholders at all levels of the organization 
  • Ability to present pragmatic alternatives and propose solutions 
  • Excellent attention to detail including proof reading skills 
  • Excellent IT skills, including virtual meeting software, PowerPoint, Word and Excel 
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to raise difficult issues with senior executives in a meeting environment
  • A collaborative team player with a flexible approach 
  • Takes full responsibility and accountability for tasks, while seeking advice and assistance when necessary 
  • Ability to identify and recommend improvements to existing processes, to align with developments in governance practice and improve effectiveness and efficiency
  • Maintaining quality standards during times of change
  • Professionalism and high political acuity is an asset

The OMA has moved to a permanent hybrid work environment. As such, the individual in this position will be required to work a minimum number of days in our Toronto office.
