Job summary
The Economist is responsible for providing research and policy analysis in the area of health care economics as it relates to the medical profession.
How you will make a difference
- Providing descriptive analyses of medical services utilization and payments to support fee setting, allocations and payment increase processes, negotiations and medical procedure funding, gathering pertinent information from OMA staff, Section Chairs, MOHLTC representatives and negotiating committees, conducting analyses, developing costing methods, preparing utilization projections and costing estimates and preparing reports, graphs and charts and presenting findings and results.
- Developing, analyzing and implementing government proposals and policies, conducting analyses to determine proposal costs and OMA business activities and funding impacts, identifying issues and concerns, providing recommendations and implementing proposals and policies.
- Managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the data provided reflects the current political and economic landscape for physicians in Ontario, participating on committees to provide input and advice and liaising with industry colleagues to keep abreast of emerging trends.
- Managing the communication of relevant and timely information with internal and external stakeholders, responding to tariff/billing related inquiries and requests for data, information and historical trends from Committee and OMA members, providing fee schedule updates, advising members on fee setting and proposal submission processes, and sharing analytical results to support committee initiatives.
- Leading original economic inquiries and composing of policy reports and technical documents on a range of compensation and health workforce topics. This includes transforming large datasets for research, accurately performing statistical analysis and testing, interpreting results, and communicating findings to internal and external stakeholders with a high degree of political acuity and sensitivity.
Requirements that are important to us
- Master’s degree in Economics, Health Policy or equivalent
- Specialized knowledge of statistical/economic software, SAS, STATA, Word, Excel and PowerPoint software applications.
- 2-5 years of experience
