Job summary
This position reports to the Manager, Employee Communications & Engagement, and is responsible for providing support, planning, execution, measurement and evaluation of various employee communication and engagement strategies and tactics. This includes drafting communication plans for organizational activities that are aligned to corporate communication strategies, leading execution of certain initiatives, building strong working relationships with staff and leadership from across the organization and providing support to the Manager. 

How you will make a difference
  • Developing and executing employee communications strategies and tactics that are aligned to organizational objectives across multiple channels that leverage a variety of mediums, including written content, employee engagement activities, surveys, graphic design, video editing, etc.
  •  Managing the OMA’s intranet StaffSpace, including making necessary technical adjustments, regularly reviewing metrics to assess the impact of intranet initiatives, collaborating with the vendor to keep the site to industry standards, and to ensure optimal user experience and the employee community’s needs are met. 
  • Developing and maintaining a network of intranet superusers with knowledge of the platform's features and capabilities and encouraging best practices for content creation and engagement on the intranet. 
  • Preparing key communications for internal stakeholders, identifying key audiences and channels and crafting communication materials to optimize audience impact; reviews and edits communications drafted by internal stakeholders and makes recommendations to ensure messaging is consistent with internal strategy and OMA branding.  
  • Leading and advising on internal staff committees, meetings, and events, including Town Halls. This also involves event/meeting coordination, drafting talking points, drafting communications to promote and/or summarize meetings and events, etc. 
  • Overseeing coordination of annual all staff events, including logistics, such as venue selection, catering, entertainment, and other event-related services. 
  • Leading the development and implementation of employee research efforts, including ongoing staff surveying for corporate events, as well as providing support for organizational level research related to employee engagement and culture initiatives. 
  • Analyzing data and metrics, identifies opportunities to apply new and innovative approaches, solicits employee feedback to better understand issues, monitors industry trends and best practices and provides recommendations.  

Requirements that are important to us
  • University Degree in Communication, journalism and/or digital communication specialization required to build knowledge of tactical skills (writing, editing, content management) and strategic development. 
  • Minimum 4-5 years’ experience required, ideally in a variety of communication disciplines (internal, external, journalism, etc.), to understand how to tailor messaging and delivery for multi-generational, diverse audience. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;  
  • Knowledge of communication theory and frameworks;  
  • Strong skills and knowledge in social media, graphic design (images, posters, etc), video and other multimedia technology;  
  • Experience with survey tools (Survey Monkey, Culture Amp, etc.); 
  • Event planning experience; 
  • Basic knowledge of coding and HTML

The OMA has moved to a permanent hybrid work environment. As such, the individual in this position will be required to work a minimum number of days in our Toronto office.
