Job summary
The Senior Manager, News & Editorial is a key member of the Channel Communications & Operations team within the Advocacy, Communications and Marketing (ACM) division.
This position directs a multi-disciplinary team in member-focused news, editorial planning and production, ensuring alignment of digital communications with overall business objectives, and in collaboration with a diverse range of internal stakeholders across the OMA. This role is responsible for the development and ongoing implementation of the news and editorial content strategy.
The Senior Manager, News & Editorial has a deep understanding of digital content design best practices (search, accessibility, member-centric design, content management systems) and is the steward for producing relevant, engaging member news and editorial communications across OMA channels.
How you will make a difference
Consult, plan, and oversee execution of multimedia member news and editorial communications:
Manage and mentor staff in the delivery of day-to-day news and editorial operations, ensuring deadlines are met and resolving issues
Assist the Senior Director in video planning and production as needed, including, but not limited to:
Champion standards for OMA digital content, news and creative services across all channels, including:

How you will make a difference
Consult, plan, and oversee execution of multimedia member news and editorial communications:
- Insight-based planning, curation and management of member news and editorial calendars that promote key content that aligns with the news and editorial strategy across OMA platforms, in partnership with ACM Account Directors, Media Director, Director Research and Strategic Communications team.
- Lead the team in the development of OMA News each week, shaping the OMA’s narrative based on our priorities/progress on key issues, and ensuring that the communication to members each week is effective and impactful and error-free.
- Write, edit and produce communications
- Partner with the Senior Manager, Digital Content and the Senior Manager, Digital Product on priority communications projects, overseeing the planning and execution of project-related member news/editorial deliverables.
- Identify editorial opportunities through review of channel insights and analytics and member feedback
- Provide additional news and editorial team support to the Internal Communications team as needed
Manage and mentor staff in the delivery of day-to-day news and editorial operations, ensuring deadlines are met and resolving issues
- Facilitate team collaboration with Digital Content and Product teams
- Identify or triage and assign news/editorial projects and deliverables
- Monitor staff workloads and performance, providing feedback, coaching and annual performance reviews
- Encourage the generation of new and innovative ideas and approaches to multi-channel editorial communications
- Participate in video planning and production as needed (storyboard preparation, reviewing edits from internal staff or vendors)
- Develop new processes and workflows to manage editorial requests with necessary internal stakeholders and members
- Build effective working relationships with key partners within all OMA departments
Assist the Senior Director in video planning and production as needed, including, but not limited to:
- Assigning overflow editing tasks as required
- Preparing and providing project briefing for external vendors if needed
- Overseeing preparation of storyboard and shot list as required
- Working with internal SMEs on the co-ordination of subject participation as required (e.g., physician leaders, SMEs or OMA execs)
- Providing editorial feedback on final product and manage internal approvals
Champion standards for OMA digital content, news and creative services across all channels, including:
- Best practice principles of user centricity, accessibility and SEO
- OMA style-guides for grammar and tone
- Consult with internal stakeholders and Members on how to deliver content within the standards
- Ensure long-term adherence to editorial and brand standards
Requirements that are important to us
- Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Journalism, Digital Media or equivalent
- Six to nine years relevant experience in digital/technology communications, corporate communications, marketing communications and/or public relations
- Significant experience in communications planning and development, including news and feature writing, interview and research skills and multi-media storytelling
- Ability to set editorial standards and enforce consistency in tone, style, and accuracy
- Ability to align editorial content with organizational strategy and brand voice
- Significant experience developing multimedia, multi-platform communications (email, web, mobile, video)
- Significant experience driving communications strategies across traditional and emerging communication platforms
- Skilled at pitching, negotiating, and maintaining relationships with media contacts
- Demonstrated experience leading editorial/news teams and managing writers, editors, or contributors
- Deadline-driven and able to co-ordinate multiple projects in motion
- Strong communicator and collaborator with multiple stakeholder groups an impeccable attention to detail
- Background in health care, government, or member-based organizations considered an asset.
